Hoya Heart Leaf
The Hoya Heart Leaf, also known as Hoya kerrii or Sweetheart Hoya, is a charming tropical houseplant loved for its thick, heart-shaped green leaves. Its naturally romantic shape makes it a popular gift for anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, and other special occasions.
Mature plants develop long vines that can trail from a hanging basket or climb a trellis with support. With proper care, they may produce rounded clusters of fragrant, waxy, star-shaped flowers in creamy white with deep-pink centers.
Bright, indirect light is ideal. A few hours of gentle morning sun may encourage flowering, but avoid harsh afternoon sunlight.
Watering
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly and allow all excess water to drain. Its thick, succulent-like leaves store moisture, so avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
Care Tips
- Plant in a chunky, well-draining potting mix.
- Provide moderate humidity with good air circulation.
- Give mature vines a trellis or support if you prefer an upright display.
- Avoid overwatering and never leave the plant sitting in standing water.
- Do not remove old flower spurs—they can bloom again.
- Protect from frost, cold drafts, and sudden temperature changes.
- Fertilize monthly during spring and summer.
- Single-leaf cuttings may remain as one rooted leaf unless a stem node is present.
